Extreme Community Makeover (ECM)

Extreme Community Makeover (ECM) coordinates volunteer teams to partner with under-served people to improve their own homes and neighborhoods. These projects build safer environments; cultivate community among residents, neighborhoods, and networks of local resource providers; and connect residents to a permanent path towards healthy, hopeful, and stable lives.

For our 5th year, Chaparral Boys Lacrosse will adopt the Barnum neighborhood in Denver on Saturday, April 8th and do a variety of yard/home projects for residents in need.

We welcome parent involvement, so please contact the CLAO (chaplaxfans@gmail.com)

The boys should receive letters to ask for support at the Pancake Dinner Kick-off on Feb 13th.

Reminders for April 8th:

  • Please bring any garden tools or work tools that could help us out.  Make sure you label everything as some tools may need to be borrowed for a project that you are not at.
  • Wear work clothes
  • Make sure your boys are thoughtful and courteous, say hello to their homeowner!
  • Sunscreen is a dandy idea
  • Water bottles are good but drinks will be brought around to each site

Where we are working:

Agenda for Saturday, April 8th

Meet at 8am in the Chaparral SENIOR lot.  We will take a roll call of all the players, identify drivers, figure out who is riding in which cars and then caravan to the following to meet at 9am:

Location – Bethany United Methodist Church (3501 West 1st Avenue, Denver, 80219)

Logistics: We will have all groups meet together at the above location at 9:00 am.  When people arrive, they will need to check-in at the registration table.  Once we get started, we will get an overview of what ECM is about, cover logistics for the day, and then we’ll split up into our groups with the boys. COACH WILL ASSIGN PLAYERS TO LEADERS/PROJECTS. At that point, Group Leaders can give more detailed info about the projects your group is targeting and we will figure out where the helpers are going.

Lunch: 12:30 pm back at Bethany United Methodist Church.  This is a time where we invite the community to join us for lunch.  We really want to have strong community representation at lunch, so please make sure to be inviting people to join us throughout the day.  Lunch will include pizza, apples, carrots, crackers, dessert, water, and lemonade.

End Time: There’s a not a set “end time” to the day since the expectation is more about finishing what we start, but we usually finish before lunch.  If a project is not done, complete it after lunch, especially for those that need to get going for Prom.

Liability Forms: Please make sure EVERYONE participating completes this form ahead of time. ADULTS AND PLAYERS!!!!!  It needs to be filled out online (not printed out).  There will be a check-in sheet at the registration table with names of those who have completed the form.  If your name is on the list, you’re done.  If your name is not on the list, you will have to fill out a paper copy.
